tHE ARABIAN POETESS
AZZA EL WAKEEL

(Excerpt from the Cold Cave)

I continue to walk
In my destined road
Like a dead corpse
Among other people who are living
Remembering how you were
Always caring, always forgiving
We are both dead
Our differences are
You lay asleep
I still can walk
You lost your voice
I still can talk

Simply Me

The lonely woman is simply me
The child who is hiding
And keeps writing
About her doubts
Laughs and tears
Is the other she in me
The dreamy girl is also me
But most of all
I am the fearful adolescent
Who doesn't want to grow
Doesn't want to know
Doesn't want to let go of you

My mind is free
To choose the words I talk
But certain paths are destined
For me to walk
I am free to be an angel or a beast
I have the power to spread lights
Or start fires
But I'm too weak
Towards my heart's desires
You asked me
What brings me to you?
Oh can't you see
I am your old dream
That's becoming true

Azza El Wakeel
Authoress of poetry book
"The Distance"

At the age of eleven, Azza El Wakeel wrote in her diary that she wished to become a poetess because poets are capable of expressing their deep feelings and thoughts in a wonderful style.
Several years later she discovered that her simple lines could be considered poems - that the texts in her diaries are poetry!
All at once she became a poetess and writer. Through writing she discovers herself and understands her feelings, she enjoys forming new sentences, playing with words, drawing images and composing inner music between the lines. Sharing her words makes her happy and she's pleased to leave a mark of beauty on the earth, because she believes that poetry is the most beautiful thing in the world.

Simply me
new version

Don't let go of me
Don't end my dream
Nor tell me that
Our romance isn't true
Our story started
When I was a girl
And you were a boy
Your love is
My only joy
My only toy

A Love song needs a heart that can sing, ready to drift with the lyrics, follow the rhythm, a love song needs a heart that can embrace the warm sun, dance under the stars, fly with the wind, my heart is sad with broken wings (azza el wakeel)

A love song

underneath my seventh veil
unforgettable memories
in my mind i keep recalling
in my dreams
i keep reliving
i live under a greyish sky
my gardens bloom
withered flowers
the stars, i cannot
see their sparklings
the sun, i cannot
see its rays

Your love is tempting
like a fresh rose
enchanting me
I'm afraid it will wither
then perish
like real flowers do
tell me then
what shall I do?
what shall i do?

Your Old Dream

My mind is free to choose
The words I talk
But certain paths
Are destined for me to walk
I'm free to be
An angel or a beast
I have the power
To spread lights
Or start fires
But I am too weak
Towards my heart's desires
You asked me what
Brings me to you?
Oh can't you see
I am your old dream
That's becoming true!

Azza El Wakeel

you were
the magician who
changed sadness
to happiness
the alchemist who
turned sand
to gold

Azza El Wakeel

say no words
i don't want
to listen
fear nothing
tell me nothing
all the wrongs
you've done to me
are forgiven
tell me no excuses
no whys nor hows
all i want to hear
are your renewed
love vows

Azza El Wakeel

Do I love you?
Do i hate you?
i'm torn in between!
I always love you
when you hold me close
and seduce me
with your charming eyes
when you whisper
you love me softly
i become enchanted
believe you even
if you tell me lies

Visitor of my dreams
Do you hear
my silent screams
can you heal my pain
bring back
my sun that faded
return my birds
that migrated
back to sing

Will you shelter me
under your wings
cure my wounds
dry my tears
calm my fears
compensate my
stolen years

Say no words

if you would have laid
your head near my heart
you would have
heard music
not an ordinary heartbeat
if you would have
embraced my heart
between your palms
you might have
burned your hands
from the heat

If you would have looked
deeply into my eyes
you would have discovered
a passion you have never seen
i would have taken you
to magical worlds
where you have never been
but you walked away
took another path
chose another apple's half
you broke my heart

A Lost star

do you think if i were
able to forget you
would i be wandering
like a lost star in the sky
can't find a place to rest
don't know the east
from the west
you were my compass
the reason for my sparkling
since you left
i stopped shinning
do you think if i were
able to bury your memories
would i be wondering
if you still love me?
do you think if i were
able to forget you
would i be suffering
from white nights
showering my pillows
with tears
haunted by
anxiety and fears
that i lost you forever!

beyond the waves

your sea water is blue
my heart is full of blues
your sea water is warm
my heart is on fire
i long to dive
beyond the waves
explore your depths
become more close
find clarity to my confusion
discover you more
love you more
if i would be able
i'd dissolve in your waters
and never return to the shore
